The Newport Athletic Hall of Fame Committee and the Newport Friends of Recreation are pleased to announce the inductees for the Newport Athletic Hall of Fame dinner and ceremony to take place on Saturday, September 27 at the Newport Opera House. The event begins at 4:00 p.m. with a social hour, followed by dinner at 5:00 p.m. and the induction ceremony at 5:30 p.m. A guest speaker for the festivities will be announced at a future date.

The list of inductees includes former Towle High School graduates and athletes Dick Krans, Ray Currier, Jack Starr and Tom Scherwertz,1980s Newport High School graduate and athlete Chad Hemingway, 1990s NHS graduate and athlete Vinroy Baronette and 2000s NHS graduates and athletes Samantha Hemingway, Elyse Rubchinuk and Stephen Nix.

In addition, long-time Newport football and baseball coach Larry Carle will be inducted as well as the state championship winning 2015 football team coached by Larry MacElreavy and Tom Fowler. David Lantz and the Lantz family will be inducted as outstanding contributors to Newport athletics over the past five decades.

The Newport Hall of Fame Committee members are formers Hall of Fame inductees, William Thurlow, his wife and long-time teacher and Towle graduate Calista Thurlow, Richard Bates, PJ Lovely, Ron Purmort and Mary Martin Maxfield. Also on the committee are long-time Newport High School nurse Kassy Helie, current Stevens athletic director and creator of the Newport Athletic Hall of Fame, Doug Beaupre, and current athletic director and NHS graduate, Jeff Miller.
