November : Newport High School
“I’m Going to College” month
sponsored by NHHEAF (New Hampshire Higher Education Assistance Foundation)
helping students learn about pursuing higher education
The students at Newport High School participated in activities during advisory time throughout the month of November to help them learn about higher education. To start the month, each advisory held “College Trivia” games in which students answered questions about colleges and college life and studies. The second activity involved decorating advisory classroom doors and bulletin boards by focusing on the themes of “What College Means to Me” or creating a tribute to the alma mater of classroom advisors. The final activity culminated the month on Monday with college pride day with students wearing t-shirts and sweatshirts from favorite colleges and universities.
Door judging resulted in the following winners:
Creativity and Originality – Mr. Faulkner’s Advisory
Visual Impact – Ms. St. James Advisory
Research – Ms. Lavigne’s Advisory
Honorable Mention went to Mrs. Urban who does not have an advisory yet still decorated her door to support the school-wide efforts. Great school spirit Mrs. Urban! All students and teachers that participated should be commended for the time and effort they put into these activities. Great job everyone!
