Pulled in a random drawing of names by fundraising experts that are coordinating efforts for Towle School Winter Program support, fifth grade student Adra Gonzalez won a brand new iPad mini. Meadow Farms fundraising in Agawam, MA is running a program giving an iPad mini away each Monday through October 10 from all students registering in their fundraising programs.
Presented the computer by Towle School Principal, Phil Callanan, at an impromptu ceremony in her Art class on Friday, Adra is excited to have received the prize. The daughter of Amy Barton and granddaughter of Eileen and John Barton, Adra is an active participant in school activities, is a dancer at Stardancer Studios, acted in The Little Mermaid at Newport Opera House and will perform in the upcoming Nutcracker at Claremont Opera House.
The fundraiser in which Gonzalez is participating is raising money to support the weekly activities sponsored by the Newport School District’s “Winter Program”. Grade 5 and 6 students are introduced to a number of lifetime winter sports activities through this physical education activity including downhill skiing, alpine skiing, snowshoeing, ice skating, basketball, volleyball, tennis, Fundraising pays for passes, transportation, lessons and equipment rentals. The program offers educational, social, emotional and community based experiences and is designed to introduce students to lifelong recreational and physical winter activities. Winter Program, in its third decade, is an important offering in the physical education curriculum at the school. It is not included in the Newport School District budget.
